Pressed glass bowl RD 826847 – registration details, please?
« on: November 01, 2012, 05:46:22 PM »
Large, heavy, clear pressed glass bowl, RD 826817.  25.5cm high x 20cm top rim diameter.

RD 826817 should have been allocated some time in March 1938, but not in list at
http://www.great-glass.co.uk/glass%20notes/regnos10.htm

Is it in the Blue Book? If so, can someone tell be the precise registration date and the registrant, please?

(Permission for re-use of these images on GMB granted by arthur5648).

Mod: title updated to reflect correct RD no.

appears not to be in the Blue Book either - possibly another class IV item maybe.

I've looked at the Kew records, but can't get down to individual registrations, so no help.        Unless someone knows the answer, this seems to require a visit to TNA

Thank you, Paul.

Seems that that most of these 'non-Blue Book' RD numbers occur in the 1930s and 1940s - perhaps registrations were delegated to a poorly supervised junior on work experience.

I may well have the opportunity to visit Kew early next week, and take pix etc., and will post details assuming I find this item.

the Kew records for 826817 refer to a metal buckle, catalogued as CLASS 1, metal  (and with suitable pic.) - so would seem to indicate that something wrong.         Is it possible that the No. has been mis-read??

Thank you very much for all your efforts, Paul.

I have emailed the bowl's owner (quoting your response) asking for confirmation of the RD number, and also for photos of the number if possible.

Will advise of his reply in due course.

Reply from owner:
"The registered number is very difficult to read and I can't get a decent picture. I have checked it again and the first four digits are definately 8268 and the last one is 7 but the fifth number is not clear and could possibly be a 4 but I can't make anything out beyond that."

826847 is a possible, which was registered by Hoskins Rose on 11.3.1938, 1 and 4 are easily mis-read on RD numbers.

Thank you, Anne.

It's well known that Hoskins, Rose & co. registered designs for Libochovice, and certainly the vertically-ribbed border on the bowl is a characteristic of other Libochovice pieces. I've trawled through the Newhall CD-ROM Libochovice catalogues already, but I'll try again with more diligence to see if I can find a pattern match.
