Which Scandinavian...?
« on: November 06, 2012, 08:27:31 PM »
Firstly, Hi guys, I'm a newbie to the forum!

Ive been collecting glass (mainly cheap whitefriars) for a little while - my knowledge is limited, as is my spending  ;D

I picked this up in a charity shop yesterday noting that the colour was similar to whitefriars 'twilight' but I had never seen the pattern in any catalogue and decided to just take a chance on it. I have done a little digging, and I think it's scandinavian - first I though it was a Riihimaki but I couldn't find a single picture match (some very similar, but none with this exact shape or clear base) then I though maybe is Aseda but again couldn't find an exact match and well, it's a little dull in colour for an Aseda. I found a very similar glass in the Holmegaard collection called 'Canada smoke' but again it's not an exact match by any means. I'm completely stuck now in Identifying this vase.

It is of good feel and quality, stands at 7.5 inches tall, weighs around 550-600 grams and has a flat polished pontil/base.

Anybody able to ID this I would be forever in your debt!  :)

Hi Kisslikeether!

Thanks for the reply! :)

I've had a good old look through the Sea Glasbruk stuff and you are right, theres plenty of similar vases again but I still could find one to match the exact pattern! I'm begining to think this vase either doesn't exist or is a poor fake/remake.  ???

Hi LeicesterGlass, and welcome to the board.
May we see a larger version of your lovely vase please, you need to make it about 600 pixels wide so we can enlarge it by clicking on it.
Also a base shot may help a lot, for those who are the Scandi experts, as this often gives a clue as to the maker.
Rosie. :)

Hi Rosieposie

I did try to put larger images up but with some difficulty (this site does seem a little obscure picture wise!  :-\ )

I have tried again here, hope this helps!  :)

Hi LeicesterGlass,
sometimes it can be a day or two or even longer, before anyone sees your post, especially those of us that still work, and if the item is not immediately recignisable bya the first lookers, then it may take some time.
Before now it has taken a few months or even years before a piece is identified, so hang on in there and in time the right person will look in and see your post and say" Ah, that's made by....wossisname!' In the meantime take comfort that it has had over 100 people look, so you are not being ignored.  :)

Sorry, my enthusiasm getting the better of me!  :(

I am known for being a little impatient though.  ;D
