Need help in identifying this gorgeous goblet - I know nothing!
« on: November 20, 2012, 07:37:19 PM »
This gorgeous goblet is 7 1/2" in height but, woe is me - I do not know the country of origin or anything about it. Can someone kindly provide me with some information? Thank you so much!

Hi,
I think we need some close-ups - especially of the cup. Not really my field, but my gut feeling says french or belgian perhaps.
Is the cup cameo? Does the clear show a hatched structure?

The clear shows a type of frosted hatching I believe - I am not too good at this type of description. The stem has twisted glass in its interior...

Like I thought it would look like.  :)
This and similarly etched structures can be found on items made by Baccarat / France and Val St. Lambert / Belgium.
Now we need a real expert, whos more familiar with this type of glass.... Ivo?  ;D
Or some google skills and some luck.

To me that looks very vsl - timewise I would say 1890 thru 1910. Cannot look it up right now , sorry.

SO sorry - what does vsl mean? And is there someplace on line you can suggest my looking it up?
Thanks.

VSL is Val St. Lambert / Belgium.
If Ivo (thank you!) can look it up it seems best just to be patient and wait until hes near to his books.  ;D
Otherwise you can try to do some detective work yourself and find books on this topic or old catalogues.
Some VSL reprints e.g. are available on ebay.fr if I remember correctly or you need to find a good library
with interlibrary loan or visit Corning Museum....

I did write to Val St Lambert - sent them an image which they do not recognize. They want to know why I think it is VSL and if it is glass or crystal...
