possible Powell finger bowl
« on: December 07, 2012, 01:53:20 PM »
probably not, but reasons for possibility are..............
this wheel engraved pattern of long darts surmounted by gothic arches, plus a sort of repeated cresting wave, I'd not seen before, then by chance discovered it twice - once each in Barbara Morris and Leslie Jackson - pages 80 and 54 respectively.
Date wise, the pattern seems to go back to at least the 1860's although may well have started much earlier.
Is a Powell attribution just wishful thinking on my part, and might it have just as easily been from one of many factories in the second half of C19.
The bowl is of standard size, has quality - rings well -  and there is a ground/polished pontil.         Thanks for looking :)

although it may be obvious to some, I had meant to say that.......on both of the quoted examples, in Morris and Jackson, the pieces illustratred are attributed to James Powell & Sons.
