Footed Paperweight and Faceted Paperweight, Opinions welcomed
« on: November 24, 2012, 10:48:11 PM »
Hello everyone, it's been a while since I found some interesting paperweights for research and I was wondering if you could help with these two at all.

The footed weight with pink flower and four green leaves appears to be similar to several in book "American Glass Paperweights and their Makers" but most similar to those by Francis Dyer Whittemore Jr. His flowers don't seem to get quite so close to the edge of the orb as this one though so I'm not sure.
It measures 3 1/2" tall and 3" in diameter.

The faceted paperweight has five facets plus the top. The inside has a flat round white disk on which are what appear to be hand painted or printed flowers in blues and pinks.
It measures 1 1/2" tall and 2" in diameter.
I have not located any information about this piece at all.

I have more pics I can post, I am posting the limit right now.

The footed weight is 30's Chi and a rare crimp. I'd like to see a top view pic of that one.

I wonder if the flower weight is one of the transfer weights made by Whitefriars ? Can't tell from the picture but does the base have a sunken middle, or button as it is known, if it does it is certainly Whitefriars.

Just before the factory closed, Whitefriars experimented with these weights of a transfer set on a plain white ceramic disc and I believe they made around 130 of them, here is my one of a cat so you can see the similarity

Dave

Hi Catisfaction,
I think Dave is right about your weight being a Whitefriars ceramic transfer, as long as it has the usual button base! It shows all the characteristics of this trial group of weights. I have added another couple of photos for comparison.

     Cheers,

                     Tony

Hi Guys, thanks for the suggestions.

Here's another photo of the Pink Flower as requested by Mark.

The possible Whitefriars just has a flat ground and polished base, so perhaps not Whitefriars after all?

Here's a photo of the base.

TY for that!  :)   I'd call that one a water lily. I have a similar one in yellow but made with a different crimp. I'm interested in yours.

Cheers,

It's 6.2 ounces, I don't have a scale that weights grams.
The base diameter is 1 7/8" It's about 2" at the widest point. It's a hair under 1 1/2" tall.

Hi,
definitely not Whitefriars as it is too light and too small a diameter.

Cheers,

Thanks :) That means I can sell it lol. If it was Whitefriars it would have had to go in my collection.
