Topic: Signed AVeM piece - is it "real"? ... Or maybe Maltese?

Just curious really as I've never seen a signed piece of AVeM before, does anyone know if the signature is real or fake?

Obviously the title and description is wrong as the signature reads "Arte Vetraria Muranese" (AVeM) not Aureliano Toso.

I don't know, but it doesn't look like a Dino Martens design (I'm not even sure it is Murano at all); a roughly ground, unpolished pontil mark would be rather untypical for high end Murano glass, IMHO...

I have one of those, though the colours are a bit nicer. It's not signed neither is the base rough ground; it's semi-matte ground using quite a small wheel, as you can see the wheel marks (much like on some Malta Decorative Glass). I was told "mother in law bought it on holiday somewhere, Malta perhaps".

I notice it had been previously sold in October... I wonder if the buyer returned it, or where there possibly 2 identical ones?

I assume "identical" is tongue in cheek, as getting the splotches the same would be miraculous

Yeah I assume they either returned it or never sent payment.  Thanks for the replies, looks like it's probably not Murano then.  Maltese does sound more likely.

Sorry, I know we're not sure of anything  I just meant it seems more likely than Murano.  I was also thinking maybe Polish with those bright colours.  Anyway, main reason to ask was just in case anyone knew for sure if the signature was fake, I could let the seller know, although it's ended now...and if it WAS genuine, which seemed unlikely, it would be interesting to know.

I would very much doubt Maltese. 
Christine - I had always thought that bit of yours had come from St Helen's World of Glass!  When we visited, there was an atrist's piece for sale of a similar design - in a deep lilac ground with mostly greens and blues - I was very tempted by it.
