Identification of Glass & Silver Cylindrical Object

These are known as Scent Flasks as they hold a tad more than is usual. More a silver/plate collectors thing. Unusual in that the glass was blown into it.

My first thought was perfume/scent, and then I changed my mind to needlecase... doh! :)

Rubbed the silver polish as suggested on both the item and chain and resulting marks are black.
Do you think it is modern?  Will take some better pictures.

if silver, but without hallmarks, then probably not British   -  which rather unhelpful, but a nice piece to have.     All we need now is for someone knowledgeable to provide an indication of age. :)
