caithness paperweight not listed scotlands glass
« on: December 31, 2012, 02:34:07 PM »
I've recently strayed from my normal collection of french glass (daum, baccarat,st. louis etc.) into the wonderful world of Caithness paperweights.  I was lucky enough to find one in a charity shop before Christmas and wondered if anybody could give me more info. I've searched ScotlandsGlass (1401 Caithness paperweights listed) but can't find this one. It has a stencilled mark on base "Caithness jubilee pastel Scotland and scratched on p (or d) 34443. The photo I've taken is too large to post but it's a normal round paperweight with white ribbony swirls glistening with silver droplets. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to the board !

A "Jubilee Pastel" does not show up in any of my sources - but there was one on ebay about 3 years ago, numbered D44387 - which goes nicely with your D34443, with D indicating 1986 as year of manufacture (whilst P would be 1996). Pastel was issued in several colourways - most in 1986 for the first time. 1986 was the 25th anniversary for Caithness (Glass - not Paperweights).

I would greatly appreciate a few high-resolution images of this weight, incl. the base with all markings. I'll send you a PN with my direct mail address for posting. If you still have problems to reduce your images to meet the requirements of the board, I could do that and post them for you.

Best regards - Wolf
