Czech Amber Vase, Scenic
« on: December 15, 2012, 04:27:46 PM »
I see these around every now & then, obviously a transfer, I think Czech & maybe not terribly old. Scenic, typical everything polished (yes the bottom too) Czech like finish & they all seem to be amber. Course everyone labels everything as Moser in the U.S., but was wondering if anyone might have an idea who the real manufacturer might be?  8" height, 4" diameter. I was $8 & I figured for $8 why not? Thanks for looking, Ken

Hi Ken,
the older pieces date from the early 20th century and are associated with Wolfgang Berndt,
a painter/decorator in Nový Bor. It seems most plausible he bought the blanks in his
neighbourhood. He BTW signed his pieces, but I´ve also seen similar items with other
signatures, too.
I suspect this kind of stuff may have been made over a long period and it wouldn´t surprise
me to find out they are still being made today.
Unfortunately I can´t give you a clue what to look for to determine the age of your piece -
unless you missed a signature...  ;)

Thanks Dirk, that shows there seems to be a wide variety in that region of these. Ken
