Old Glass Man Required??? intriguing Soda Glass Engraved Vase???
« on: December 27, 2012, 01:23:07 PM »
This is an interesting piece of glass quite heavy and large at 28cm tall and 1.5kg it is of amethyst colour with many bubbles and internal air pockets the engraving of berry and leaves is highlighted to the edges of the deoration with an applied enamel or colouring to make it stand out. The base is kicked up and has a polished pontil scar the edge of the base has a ring of wear indicating a good period piece!!
On the base it is fairly thick and when held to the light has amethyst swirls in th glass it was purchased from the same collector i purchased the other piece ive listd on gmb the amethyst mug maybe made in the same country??? The rim is cut and polished and the outside edge is chamfered off and the outer edge is slightly flared maybe been cut down???Im not sure iv never seen another..Any information on this would be of great help...

Looks like mid 19th ct to me, probably German or French or Belgium - and it probably had a scalloped edge which has been trimmed off - but done professionally.
