Marks on base of paperweight

I have a glass paperweight with a small rectangular groove or niche on the base. I also have one with a tiny square groove. Can anyone tell me what this are? Many thanks!

Need some pics, without them I think we can only tell you what you already know.

OK thanks, I will try and do that tomorrow. I thought they might be caused by the manufacturing process although not sure how.

This isn't my paperweight but it shows the type of mark I am referring to...

just looks like a pontil scar which was to deep to polish out
