Help with ID of clear-cased amethyst vase, form of a wave
«

Can anyone advise of a maker for this clear-cased amethyst vase? It is large and heavy at 19cm (7½in) tall, 16cm (6¼in) wide, weighing 1.3kg (~3lbs). The amethyst is cased in clear glass and the base has a rectangular recess, the outer of the base is smooth ground.
Any help much appreciated!

The base reminds me of the base of a moulded citrine ZBS ashtray I had, which also had similar ridged ends and the semi smooth polished rectangular base...

Thanks Sue - it also helps as I have a couple of other pieces with a similar base. I looked at
Wayne's site
and this shows ZBS pieces I have, although all these appear to be perfectly flat, ground and polished bases.
So long since I have had time to ID my own glass... aren't I a dumpling...

A sweet, sugar dumpling, David if any sort of dumpling at all - not the solid, turgid suet kind!
I've found some pics, perhaps not as exactly alike as I first thought - the shape of the base is different. But there's something ringing bells at me, between the not shiny polished base parts (the bits the glass actually sits on) and the ridged wavy sides.
The ashtray is beautifully finished - no mould lines visible.

I have run into these on occassion & I have to look twice because they somewhat resemble Tiffin Modern baskets. I've seen them in ruby, amethyst (like yours) & green. I found a label on one probably 5-6 years ago & it was Canadian, but not Chalet...old age & I forgot what Canadian company it was.

It has been suggested by Robert (bOBA) that it could be Lorraine Glass (1962–74), which had a similar time range to Chalet. However, Robert does think these pieces had flat polished bases, not with the recess.
Here is also another piece I have with a similar base. I had this ID'ed at one time as being Scandinavian.
