Bertil Vallien House Series
« on: January 15, 2013, 08:46:41 PM »
I have a bid on Ebay for the following Bertil Vallien item. I have not been able to verify anything about it including its authenticity. The signature does not seem to match his later pieces and there is no number marking on it other than the year I believe. Thanks for anything you might be able to help me with.

Welcome to the forum.

It looks 'right', not that I have seen one before or can find another now. Given the damage I think it sold quite well too.

Thank you for letting me know. The final bid was $210. Do you think I might have overpaid or is this a reasonable price to pay for something like this? I have no idea how many were produced as there seems to be no number. There is an "X" whatever that means.

Very difficult to judge whether the cost was high or low without further examples to compare it too (perhaps a good thing).

Looking on Kosta's website ( http://www.kostaboda.com/ ) it does not seem to be from their current range, you could contact Kosta Boda and ask for information about it, contact details here: http://www.kostaboda.com/about-kosta-boda/contact-us
their email address: info@kostaboda.se

If you do learn anything about it from them please don't forget to let us know!

karenwil, welcome to the board. I've removed your duplicate post from our Scandinavian forum so we don't get replies in 2 places and become confused. Please only post your query in one forum (GLASS is correct for any identification question) and if necessary, the topic will be moved by a moderator, either on request or to suit the board's structure. Thanks. :)
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Good to see another though.

I would have my doubts that Bertil Vallien actually did the signing, that would have been the job of someone else.

John, I think you misunderstood my reference to signing convention. I know the artists themselves don't sign pieces (Although I do have a Limited Edition signed by Göran Wärff). I was referring to the way items are signed a la [Kosta Boda] [Artist] [Pattern Number] as neither of these houses conform to that or the signing for test pieces.
