XL Moon Flask-Shaped Scavo Vase
« on: January 21, 2013, 03:11:31 PM »
I've a very large scavo vase shaped a little like a Chinese moon flask. It's a densely speckled blue glass, cased in clear. It has a ground base and top rim. The scavo decoration is a little iridescent.

Pretty sure it's not Cenedese, as their scavo wares tend to be uncased and fire-polished to the rim. I've had a few Seguso Vd'A items that are similarly cased, ground, and with iridescent scavo, but nothing in this speckled glass.

Just occurred to me that Luigi Mellara would be a strong contender.

Looks more like an annoyed hausfrau than a vase with ears.  ;D

That's Vishnu's annoyed wife.

Lovely looking vase, though.

and to think it is only 3" tall.  But it does have the powder colour base and the iridescence.

Whilst I'd love my vase to be B&T, the quality isn't quite there. I'd expect everything to be neatly polished rather than neatly ground.

Mellara, however... http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/11487410_large-bird-figurine-by-luigi-mellara
