Topic: Help with opalescent glass bowl Id please...

errrrm. Have seen this before, but without an established attribution. Am thinking Etling?
My example is unmarked/signed.
It has the 'feel' of Choisy-le-Roi,
but as for the head in the centre, does anybody know who he is or what it represents please?
Am in a right tiz-waz with this piece. It is 20cms diameter. Many thanks in advance. John

not much help to you John, but I do recall some time earlier last year, being aware of a GMB member having an entire gallery of opalescent pieces, which was on the board somewhere.........but now can't remember who it was.         It might have helped  -  perhaps Anne will know.

I did in fact locate something along those lines a few months back, whilst researching the piece,
but lost all of my files when the darn computer crashed... It could have been a collector on Flicker, but?

It does seem to be the only pattern-type with a face on it?
To mark an occaision or an aniversary perhaps??? But can only guess...

Will wait to see if Anne can come-up trumps... She usually does when she can and is a Godsend...

I did think Etling /Choisy-le-Rois and most definately French, and your links have assisted me very much...
Plenty there for me to examine and to feast my eyes upon...
Including the Cesari, which I also have examples of...
and VERNOX (which I believe to be a Sabino mark as used c1930s) but that is another story.... Zzzzz.

.... Here is a thought.

The subject matter of the bowl pattern itself and its association with the name Cesari (who we also know very little about)

Cesari, is also a wine producing company which formed and established in circa 1936, the 'approximate' period that this bowl was also produced. This of course could be completely coincidental however it is not impossible to imagine that to mark the opening of the Italian wine producing company, that this ‘Grapevine’ pattern bowl was commissioned to be made, but as to whom the face in the centre is or represents?

One could also presume, that should the above have taken place, that Murano would more likely to have been chosen, rather than Choisy-le-Roi? However, Cesari (wine) were strongly involved with getting their products quickly established & distributed within France at this time...

While it's an interesting idea, the 'Cesari' mark on this type of opalescent glass isn't related to the Italian winery. The promotional bowl is for 'les vins du postillon' as Glassholic has identified.

A further thought perhaps, is the similarities between these two of mine....

1. Cesari 10 inches diameter bowl.
2. Verlux 14 inches diameter charger.

Cesari & Verlux are both asscoiated with Etling and also Choisy-le-Roi (less I'm mistaken!)

There seems to me to be more than just a coincidence with the designs of these two,
for them not to have been by the same designer. What do you reckon?

Both display the same qualities of opalescent glass as my other Etling & Choisy-le-Rois examples.
I am wondering about the "Grapes & Vine" design in this instance... Same designer??? Both for Etling???
