Scandinavian? Soft green plate/bowl.
« on: January 24, 2013, 08:47:34 AM »
Hi all,
Can anyone give me any info on this item please?
The design is similar to the Kosta Boda zoom plates I've found on Google but the colouring is very pale.
Any help much appreciated :)

It's what is known as a mushroom posy vase. My guess would be English. Is there a polished pontil mark on the base? Does it glow bright green under a UV light?

Hi Lustrousstone,
Thanks for your reply.
Will check for a pontil mark when I get home.
I'm afraid I don't have a UV light  :(
Thanks again

I'm afraid I don't have a UV light  :(

Small UV flahlights about 9-LEDs are cheap from hong kong these days (under 5 dollar or euro) and really useful for glass ID.  But I would would expect if your piece has uranium glass it will fluoresce green quite a bit even just next to an open window.  Looks like it does even from the photo.

Thanks for the UV light tip, will look into getting one.
Have had a look at the base but can't see a discernable pontil mark. Base looks uniform and smooth.
Many thanks

I have a blue one of these with the same shape. Mushroom posy bowl - it would have had a round glass flower holder with holes (called a 'frog') in the middle. I believe it's Davidson glass, English. They made them in the 1930s and again in the 50s.

Thanks NMott,
That's fantastic. Googled Davidson glass and found some very similar images.
Loving this forum,I've learnt lots already.
Thank you for your help.
