Panel cut Decanter - Amber - ideas?
«

This one is a sad case but I couldn't help but take it home. Looks prettier than the pictures suggest.
The glass is wavy inside giving it an optic effect. Any ideas on age or where in the world it was made?
The first pic shows with and without liquid. Last picture shows why it's sad.

shame about the damage - appears to have been a quality decanter looking at the slice cutting and bevelling.
Really can't offer any positive attribution or provenance, but with the flat outter foot ring and the chunky stopper, would suggest Continental from somewhere in the 1930 - 40 period. Looks a barley-sugar colour. Possibly Czechoslovakian or German. Someone else might be able to offer much better information.

meant to say...........presumably there aren't any matching numbers on the stopper/body.

Thanks Paul. Yes the cut is very very nice, and a lot of care was taken where the neck flares out to the body. I too was surprised not to see a mark or numbers on the stopper/body. I like it enough I'm seriously thinking about cutting away the damage (about 1/2") and regrinding/fitting for the existing stopper - a summer project if it comes to that.
