Mystery Neodymium Object....? Opinions Sort
« on: February 03, 2013, 02:46:44 PM »
Stumbled across this piece recently, which was intriguing as it is produced from neodymium glass. It appears to have be made in 3 parts, foot, twisted stem and bowl. Has some wear to the base, although not a massive amount. Has a little bit of an Italian/Venetian feel.

I was a little confused as to its main function, the top bowl seemed to small to be a tazza but to big to be a comport base, coupled with the fact the top rim is rounded where it has been fire polished. I suppose it could just be a centrepiece or trinket bowl, however, would welcome further thoughts......

Measures 9.5 inches tall with a rim diameter of 4.5 inches, approx weight 600 grams.

Thanks
Greg

Looks like it should have a pillar candle in it

Thanks for the suggestion Christine. I tried it out with a two inch diameter pillar candle (the largest candle that I could find at present). It sits a little funny because it is slightly raised in the centre where the bowl adjoins the stem, I suppose its nothing that a bit of melted candlewax wouldn't fix? The internal diameter of the bowl is 4 inches exactly, so perhaps a 4 inch pillar candle may stand better, due to the tighter fit.

Is it not rather top-heavy with a candle in it?
I'm thinking, cats, dogs, small children and eeeeeek!

At first glance it did look a little top heavy, although it is surprisingly stable, so perhaps a 4 inch pillar candle would be suitable. Although I take your point, cats and candles aren't the best of companions!
