Davidson Rd. 549518 in Primrose Pearline
« on: April 11, 2007, 03:49:43 AM »
Hey all, I just wanted to show off my newest acquisition.  What is so special about this is the late date as to when it was made.  This is Rd. 549518 (raised numbers in bottom rim on the inside of the dish).  This pattern was registered on Sept. 18, 1909.  According to CLOUDGLASS.COM, this pattern was the basis for the 1910 Suite.  What is significant is that Davidson had very limited production of Primrose Pearline after 1903.  This is only the second one of these I have ever seen.

This one has the same Rd number so appears to be a bit of an oddity...

Looks like they used the wrong plunger for their later salts...
Mine (like John's) has the correct mark

I wonder how many more items are floating around with another designs Rd number?

There seems a be a similar case involving interchange of plungers on a Henry Greener dish discussed at

Just to try and clarify the 'correct' RD numbers for the various Davidson patterns:

Dave's salt, in the first post, is correctly marked 549518, registered 18 September 1909.

John's salt, in the second post, is an example of Davidson's registered design number 413701, registered on 14 July 1903 (their 1904 suite - a.k.a. 'William and Mary', mainly by American collectors). So the 'correct' plunger for it should also be marked 413701.

I attach two photos of pink RD 413701 salts (one circular, one oval) both correctly marked 413701.

Thank you for the clarification.

I guess a plunger could have been lost or perhaps even modified but would there have been duplicate plungers for the same item?

John
