Signed Art Glass Double Wall Bowl - Can't read Signature
« on: February 25, 2013, 07:50:54 PM »
Hello all. Was hoping someone could help me ID this pretty double wall glass bowl. The signature is there, I even put some color on it to make it pop, but still can't read it. Also, is there a style name for the white line design inside? Would it be Latticino? Thank you for any help offered.

Hi there......think it MIGHT SAY " ZANOTTI MURANO " IMHO...

I think   ??  ??  not sure, though ??

Think the second word IS (a very messy)  MURANO....?

Thank you Rose. You very well may be right. I was thinking Murano but could not come up with the artist. I will do some investigating with your suggestion.  Thanks very much!

I'd call the technique filigrana.  There's a few, very few, of us who resist the name latticino, as it's not a term that was created in Murano, although I have seen it applied to Murano pieces.

The piece doesn't look very Murano-like to me. I associate that double wall bowl more with North American studio glass, which would explain the signature. Very hard to make out that signature, though.

Good luck,

David

Hi again. Still can't seem to nail down the maker or signature. Someone did suggest it resembles Kaf Franck for Nuutajarvi.  Anyone else care to give it a shot? Thanks!

I'm with Langhaugh; looks like recent North American glass to me.  I haven't seen that particular pattern or signature but there are several makers that do double wall bowls on both US coast, and in the middle I'm sure.  Where are you located?

CAn I suggest a different wya to photgraph the signature so the pattern in the glass does not exist.

If you take it at a shallow angle the glass surface will be "white" and the signature will appear dark.  I have attached a couple of photos to show the effect.

Thanks David, It is your suggesting American that helped the search.

There is a lot about him on the web Patti, and some beautiful pieces I would be very happy to own... well worth following up on to see all his other pieces.
I have just been going through Google under 'John Geci, Glass Artist',  and came up with some wonderful links.
He is highly thought of,  so can't believe I have never heard of him.

I wondered if the second row of writing under J. Geci might be a Roman Numeral style date or the Studio name????
There are contact details, and I am sure he would be happy to verify it as his work and explain the whole signature details.
