Internal bubbles vase with metal / enamel style top ID help
« on: February 28, 2013, 12:16:21 PM »
Hello ,
This dressing table type jar is 11 cm's high and 11 cm's at widest point. It has internal bubbles and the glass is clear with a greenish hue. The base is very slightly concave and the rim is flat. The lid is white metal with enameling style and black ball top.
Any help with ID would be great, thanks.

The bubbles in the body look as if they're controlled rather than random - I would venture to suggest this suggests some quality.
It's the lid that has me curious though - is it machine-tooled metal-work under a clear coloured enamel?
That is something that is considered to be high quality work and desirable to some collectors - although I'm not really sure the interest would be to glass collecotrs, per se. Sorry I can't help with id though, not really my area. :-[

Possibly a mariage of a vase with the lid of a metal powder box?

I did wonder a bit about the colour of the glass appearing to be too "contemporary bottle green" for such a lid Ivo, but I didn't get around to thinking about marriage.
(I never do.  ;) )

Yes the bubbles are definitely controlled , as for the lid it does look like machine-tooled light green wavy patterned enamel with a clear layer on top, but maybe its plastic material. I have not handled enamelling before so unsure how to tell.

I've found an image of a machine tooled and enamelled pendant.

The metal is engraved with a multitude of very fine lines making a decorative surface which is then covered with a clear coloured enamel which shows the patterning up, while the patterning, because it is 3-D, makes the enamel paler or darker.
It's a beautiful demonstration of the interaction between the surface and the enamel.

I'm afraid then, I don't think the bottom glass part belongs to your lovely lid.
I'm not very clued up about "metal bits", but I would imagine these is some age to the lid and it is a desirable thing - but more so with the correct bottom part.
