Opalescent Pressed Czech Vase - Barolac?
« on: March 01, 2013, 10:42:00 AM »
Hopefully someone can ID this large vase, 26.5cm tall. My limited experience tells me it could be Barolac. It is marked Czechoslavakia on the base, but I would welcome anyone else's input.
Please note that I do not have the vase so am basing everything on the photo and description.

Looks frosted rather than opalescent IMHO

It is frosted, quite correct - there is no opalescence.

it reminds me of a vase I have that I think might be by Feigl and Morawetz.  Or something to do with Libochovice.  I seem to recall looking mine up ( no notes lol), mine has birds on, and there was a horse vase in the series and a  fish one iirc and some floral ones as well.
I'll have a look to see if I can find the reference.  For some reason I think it was on one of Frank's sites that I initially found it - some articles on animals in glass.

here's the link to my vase with some info on - mine is Feigl and Morawetz and then in the Libochovice catalogues until 1958 I think.
to check whether your vase is one of the flower ones I need to check the CD and I don't know how to with my new laptop at the mo.
If anyone else has the cd the flowered ones can be found near the birds one on the reference I gave on my link here.

Thanks Ivo - I know you saw it yesterday - I was winging it!

M - thanks for all that. It does look very similar to the ones shown. Just need Patricia to confirm.

Did you manage to get a look at the Libochovice cd on Marcus' book?
I'll try and do it later but I've a document to write and I don't want to mess around with my comp until that's finished.

hello Everyone,
I purchased one of these lovely vases this morning at  the flea market.
Like David E 's one mine is also frosted; but in the lovely afternoon light it looks iridised (soft golds and pinks) inside I assume this is some sort of build up after years of use.

I've looked the vase up on the Sklo Union database it is shown on page 29 of the libochovice Glassexport before 1958 catalogue, given number 2007 at a height of 27cm which is bang on for my vase.

Cheers
meegs

As an update, I searched Jindrich's site and found the following page where the vase is also shown in the catalogue.
