Topic: id help with this mystery weight?

 hi guys
this is the last of the weights ive been scratching my head about
this one though i spotted it in a local auction house and thought i was getting a bargin as i was 100% sure it was orient and flume and im sure im 100% wrong so im consistant if nothing else  any help is very welcome

Hi there,

I always took these weights to be Murano. But not sure that I have any evidence for this belief. So let's hear what other collectors think.

Hi Joe

I think there are various artists/makers who have made surface decorated items like this - for example, Orient & Flume made some very nice ones - as well as the usual suspects such as Murano.  I have had several that I could not tie to a particular maker.  The millefiori cane may be the key to who made this one, assuming the base is unmarked - could you post a sharp image of it?

Hi Joe.  I do not recognise the cane, but it is well made. I wonder whether it might be an Okra paperweight?

Alan, I suspect it's not Okra.  I have around 50 Okra weights in my collection, and none is that much like Joe's.   i have not seen an Okra with a central top cane.

Joe's weight is very similar to another weight in my collection which is unsigned and so far unidentified, but which I suspect is Murano.

 i did think it was going to be an head scratcher along with keith & sophieb i thought it maybe murano but the cane dosent seem to fit as alan said the cane is well made
i went along to my local antiques dealer and he thought the maker may be up to a bit of mischief as in his opinion the cane looks slighty french but the main body is not
main thing i like it and it will go back in the out house with the rest of my question weights

Could possibly be someone like Steve Smyers or Terry Crider, but the cane isn't something I've seen in their weights.  I'm sure there are some other candidates in a similar vein to those 2 I don't know about?

I have a large archive of Ebay photos as a way of helping me identify weights - not the most reliable I know BUT!  "Golden Crown - E&R Italy" is very similar to yours.  If it were American I would expect it to be clearly marked on the base or around the bottom of the sides.
