Davidson Royal Blue 34SD Bowl
« on: March 10, 2013, 04:11:31 PM »
Thought that I would add a few pictures of this Davidson 34SD bowl in the rather uncommon Royal Blue colour, the first piece of Davidson I have encountered in this colour.

Is this a scarce and desirable colour?
Just I saw a bit of Davidson - the oval, slightly twisted leaf-shaped bowl, in this colour in a charity shop only today. I know it's a Davidson piece - I've got a red one with its black and gold lion-y label still on.

Your bowl is a lovely thing Greg - it reminds me of my Franco Toffolo sommerso bowl -  it's a very similar shape.  :)

Thanks M and Sue.  :)

If it wasn't for the typical Davidson shape, I may have overlooked the bowl. There's some really good info on Davidson Royal Blue on the Cloud Glass website:

http://www.cloudglass.com/Davidsonbetweenwars.htm

I gather Royal Blue was produced by Davidson only in 1936, with the vast majority being produced only in Jan and Feb. Glancing at the production figures for this shape 34SD, a total of 949 were produced by Davidson.

I get the feeling finding a matching plinth and frog may be tricky, although I live in hope.  :)

I think blue was also used in the much later (Brama) ranges, which is probably what the leaf thing is.

I think you are probably correct.   :'(
The twisted leaf thing isn't nearly as impressive as this.
