Lesley Jackson indicates that he was probably still alive when her text for 20th Century Factory Glass was completed, published 2000.
Nigel Benson, published 2002, mentions his birth date of 1926, but not his death, so Nigel had not seen any report of this in the preceding two years. Nigel reads widely, so he is unlikely to have missed his obituary if it was published in, say, the Glass Circle Journal.
You might try the discussion board discussed under topic "Scandinavian glass discussion group" or Broadfield House for more up-to-date information.

I got hold of a contact e'mail, and exchanged a few lines with (i think) his son, but nothing definite - am planning to try again in the new year when I hope to have pulled together what I've got so far.

Good Question! After Ernest left Afors in 1963,being succeeeded by Bertil Vallian I beleive he became a freelancer working with many of the scandi factories, I am sure I read somewhere a few years ago, but for the life of me I cannot remember where, that he died in 1987, of lukimia at the age of 61, back in England.

Tiger,
Thanks - I do a bit of family history as well, so next time I'm up there I'll check it out.
