Diatreta maker, Peter Borkovics
« on: March 18, 2013, 09:49:08 AM »
Hello!  :)
I was lucky enough to have been taken to Krakow for a fabulous holiday recently, and I returned to the lovely Art Glass shop, GaleriaBB, which we had found when there 10 years ago.

Isn't it wonderful that it is still going?  8)

I treated myself to a fascinating shot glass by Peter Borkovics, and yesterday did a bit of a google on him, finding this website.

There is very interesting information here, not to mention some lovely pics!

Not only about the making of diatreta, but about the making of the shot glass - which reminded me of a paperweight query Wuff had, about a weight with a hollow skull inside it, and there was a fair amount of speculation as to how it was made.

My shot glass has faces inside, and it was made using a plaster mould, which then has to be broken up to be removed. Thus each glass is an individual thing - a new mould has to be made for each one.

Googling around a bit more on this artist, I found this fascinating site - loads and loads of serious eye-candy - and something else amazing and diatreta-ish from Peter Borkovics!

smitten, slightly envious, well...a bit more than slightly -  and I've not had a chance to look at the second site yet either.
That's gorgeous work.

Met him many years ago in Budapest and bought one of his Janus head shot glasses. It featured in one of the earlier the glass calendars...

We have such good taste, don't we Ivo?  ;)
(It just takes me a bit more time to catch up.)
It is the Janus head glass I bought. ;D

Unable to find the original picture which was quite spectacular - I would have reposted it here. All Janus heads are different.

All the shot glasses are unique, Ivo, not just the Janus ones. I'll have to get the camera out.  :)
