Erik Hoglund bottle vase for Boda, Pattern H1205/145???
« on: March 21, 2013, 12:27:17 PM »
Of the two pieces in the first photo, I would appreciate help with the green Erik Hoglund piece, made for Boda, I believe. The engraved mark is definitely H1205/1xx - the two x's are not clear, but I believe it's either

4 or 7, then
5 or 6

So 145, 146, 175 or 176

Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

The blue bowl is also Hogland, with the mark H961/95 - far clearer!

Another question, if I may - Do we know what dates these were produced?

Answering my own question here, but as Kosta amalgamated with Boda around 1976, and Hoglund left c.1974, it is reasonable to assume that this bottle dates to around 1970.

The number before the / is the pattern number, after the / denotes the size (some designs are found in varying sizes). I would expect yours are /145 and /175 and will be around 14.5cm and 17.5cm tall.

Hoglund designed for Boda during the 1950s and 60s, as a very rough rule of thumb I assume design numbers below 1000 are from the 50s with later numbers the 60s. So both were more likely produced in the 60s I would think.

Thanks for that John!  :)

A similar system of denoting height as used by the West German pottery companies.

both are from before 1965, 961 is from 1962 or earlier.

I have photos of a January 1965 catalogue for the American market, there are items in it with pattern numbers that run into the 1400s and 1500s.

961 is listed as vase available in four sizes (60/95/160/180). 1205 is not listed.

I have the same catalogue. It means it was already discontinued.
