Mystery Trinket/Ink? Tray with 3 loop logo ID Help.
« on: April 14, 2013, 02:15:41 PM »
Picked a couple of these up a while back but have had little luck in ID'ing. I found a smaller square lidded box with same 3 loops on Ebay, being sold as an ink well - but no other info.

Very heavy and thick walled w/ dull yellow-green shift under UV. Definitely a well made piece and very functional around the house. No markings other than the etched pattern.

Any info appreciated.

It looks more like a butter dish than a trinket set piece... I'll move it over to Glass for you.

Big big for sardines but I agree with that thick glass it looks more like tableware than bedroom ware

Interesting new tidbit of info......logo very similar to the old Toastmaster Toaster design. I believe some vintage toasters came with serving trays. If this is the case, it must have been the Cadillac of toasters!

That could also tie in with a butter dish notion - every good bit of toast needs butter! :)

Exact dimensions (English):

7 1/2" long
4 9/16" wide
5/16" thick
1" tall

Three fish or scissor looking loops are nicely etched from bottom and three (micro) step tiers lead to main base. Bottom and sides have very fine and hard to see linear grooves under loupe, while the rim is perfectly smooth.

The photo shows a ruler, but macro distorts it a bit. Butter sounds feasible. IDK. Tried to sell one last weekend, but not even a second glance.  Oh well, thought about getting the matching box on ebay, but it's pretty rough - not to mention *optimistically* priced.

Thanks for info, and any new info welcomed.

PS- If this is a butter dish, how likely is it that a top would have been made for it?

It could even be the lid of a butter dish, something like this http://lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/displayimage.php?pid=606
