Brockwitz bowl pattern 9091
« on: May 17, 2013, 06:32:29 PM »
In 1941 this 'coloured fruit bowl' would have cost you Reich Marks 236.5, and if you wanted the decoration frosted - as in the example here -  that would have added another RM 40 - so, at RM 275 it seems to have been a very expensive item - possibly the most expensive from this factory, by a long way.
This should be the 1941 catalogue..... http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Brockwitz-1941.86.0.html.       Does 'hell' mean clear glass??

Appears to be Brockwitz pattern 9091, and from what I can see is showing in 1936 and 1941 catalogues only - the example on Pamela's site...  http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/schalen/01137.html ..  is without the frosting.
Certainly a hefty piece, and side to side is something like 13.5" (340mm).

Does Pamela know why this was so much more expensive that other pieces at that time -  was there perhaps a high failure rate??           Thanks for looking. :)

Hi Paul,
can´t help with the other questions unfortunately, but ´hell´ does indeed mean clear in this context.
Strictly speaking it means light - ´klar´ would be clear. `Farbig´ is - as you will have guessed already -
coloured.

thanks for the translation Dirk  -  and yes, I'd worked out that the other one meant coloured.          I was surprised at the high price for this bowl, especially with the frosting, and can only imagine that it was not a particularly successful pattern to press, maybe bearing in mind the shape.

You´re possibly right about the shape-issue I could imagine. This bowl would require a bit more
than just a hinged form with some easily attachable additions.
So more handwork and more time, which would lead to a cooling-down of the mould resulting
in worse pressing results? Just doing some guesswork...

Angela, Paul and Dirk - I missed this beauty while in Asia during May, 2013 - it's one of my absolutely favourite Brockwitz bowls!   :-*

The price indicated in the catalogue is for 100 pieces...   terms & conditions # 4 ;D

thanks Pamela  -  so not quite so expensive as I'd thought  -  but agree with you that it's great piece :)  -       You'd be very welcome to have mine, if ever you visited this part of the U.K...............    but posting it would be far too expensive I'm sure.
