A glass I bought today in the shape of a barrel was made by Robinson and Bolton at the Orford Glass Works Warrington Lancashire.

The glass has a nice clear date lozenge for the 17th of Feb 1866.

Height 5.75" / 14.5cm and weighs 370gm.

I can not remember myself seeing another one.

Thank you, Roy. I've not seen it before either.

The registered design number is 195272.

The online registration summary from TNA gives the description as a 'tumbler',  so I presume that it has has the same barrel-shaped body but no stem or foot.

Does anyone have a photo of the tumbler to show, please?.

Thomas Joyce gives lots of interesting details of Edward Bolton and the Orford Lane Glassworks, Warrington, including the partnership with Peter Robinson from 1855-1869, at
http://www.inchicore-pressedglass-museum.org/Edward%20Bolton1.htm

He also lists the five Robinson and Bolton registered designs as:
105196 – P2 on 23 June 1856
187536 – P3 on 14 June 1865
189615 – P1 on 11 September 1865
189616 – P1 on 11 September 1865
195272 – P1 on 17 February 1866 [the goblet or tumbler of the first post].

TNA online registration summaries otherwise only give a description for RD 105196 (‘design for pressed or moulded glass’).

Photos of the first 4 registered designs then, anyone?

Roy, it was in my mind somewhere that there had been other Robinson & Bolton pieces shown on GMB, and I had done a search on GMB but got no result (?), so thank you for the link.

So now we only need RDs 187536, 189615 and 189616....

From the various photos, the quality of the Robinson and Bolton pressings looks first rate, and it may be that there could be several different shapes for a given design.

Archive details for Rd. No. 195272 - first registered 17th February 1866, are:

for the Register - BT 44/7, and the entry gives nothing new..........simply says  "Tumbler" - so presumably made originally without the stem or foot, and in view of the absence of anything else, I didn't take a pic of the Register page.

The Representation is BT 43/61 - and this shows the picture as now attached.
