Bohemian Vases Beranek? Chribska? or other?
« on: August 17, 2013, 07:33:05 AM »
I had these somewhere else for help with ID but nothing forthcoming. I've seen these on ebay attributed to a number of makers. As I don't have access to any literature or knowledge of differences between makers/designers, I thought this would be the perfect place. And a friend also said there is more knowledge here and I'm likely to get a correct answer :)

They are slightly different in size, being handmade. Very heavy and I guess the pictures tell the story as most in this style are similar. I've had them a long time and originally thought they were Murano when I purchased them but now I'm learning so much more is Bohemian. Any help appreciated.

hello Trudy.........         regret I'm going to be rather negative, unfortunately.

This grading of blue, violet and orange would seem to suggest Chribska, but the lack of clear casing  -  many Chribska pieces like this have massively clear bases, plus the fact that I can't find the shape  -  would suggest not.          You don't make any mention of casing.
I somehow don't get the feeling it's Murano.

You might care to continue to looking here...........   http://www.20thcenturyglass.com/glass_encyclopedia/bohemian_glass/chribskaglass_home.htm  ...   which does include a lot of material from that factory.           Since the Czech glass experts remain silent, then must assume this not an easy piece to id.

A very big thanks to Jindrich for manking available his catalogues of Czech glass :)

Thanks Paul. I've had a suggestion it may be Beranek, Andromeda Twist Vase.. Also thanks for having a look for me :)

Definitely not Andromeda, the twists go the wrong for one thing: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/CzechGlass#5432668397702535474

I wonder if your vases could be from Japan, Kamei is one possibility.

I would lean towards Japan, too.
Most of the Chribska vases seem to have a thick clear casing.
Here are some of the twisted vases from a 1999 Chribska catalogue on Jindrich's great site:  >> Link 1, >> Link 2

BTW, your pics don't blow up enough to see any details; making the longest side about 700 px usually works well ;)

I just use an auto resizer for the pics. I'm not sure about Japan to be honest. I have some bowls etc by Hineri and the quality of these vases is much better. The colour is a lot denser than the Chribska vases. On closer look the inner is the pink, the exterior is the blue. Almost like a sommerso style vase.
