There were a few paperweights that came from the same lot as the one I posted yesterday that was identified as Whitefriars. Is it possible this is also a good find? Thanks for looking.

My first thought is that it is modern Chinese, but the torsade looks a bit better than one might expect for a typical Chinese product.

Hi there,

I think this weight is Murano. It is a rather unusual design but it is far from being perfect: in the making, one of the petals has broken away from the flower.

I have never seen a torsade on a Chinese flower weight before, hence my decision to go for Murano.

The flat polished base supports your suggestion, and I agree that torsades in Chinese paperweights are very rare. I just wonder though whether it is one of the latest generation, more competent Chinese pieces. Hard to say.
