just a quickie!

I 've got this Edward Moore lidded thingie, reg No 88124 which dates the reg design to 29.11.1887

Does anyone have access to anything that would say what it actually is please? or hazard a guess as words are failing me
bonboniere? sweetmeat?

10 inches handle to handle x 5 inches high
