Looks Scandanavian... Rihimaki?
« on: May 07, 2006, 04:59:52 PM »
10" high vase is a gorgeous tangerine cased in clear glass. No marks. I've been searching and find Rihimaki vases with the same feel, but nothing that quite matches this. Can anyone please help with id, date (I assume 60's or 70's) etc?

Hi, welcome to the board.  :D

There's an identical one in Millers Colectables Price Guide 2005 page 323.

Described as such: A 1960's Finnish Riihimaen Lasi Oy cased red vase. 10 inches high.

These books are not always accurate though. I'm no expert on these but I've never seen Riihimaen glass in this colour before.  :?

I'm Dee, in northeast Ohio. I primarily deal in midcentury modern and art deco furnishings but know very little about glass. This came from an estate; the color and shape caught my eye. The other things I got there were circa 60's & 70's, as this appears to be.

Infact, you've got me thinking now because I've got a piece of glass with the same colour in this thread.

My photo's don't show the colour of my vase accurately but it's definetly the same colour as your vase Retromod.

Hi Dee and welcome :D

I have only seen one vase, Fenomena (produced 1968-1972) designed by Nanny Still, which came in this colour of orange. So it was used.
I can't find your vase shape in my limited books; similar shapes, but not identical.

I wish I could give you more information.

The orange looks about right, but is that one somewhat opaque? It appears so in the pic. This is very transparent.

Oh, I have a cased orange one, by Alsterbro (pre 1969). I was just totally concentrating on Finland, didn't consider Sweden.

it has a light cloudyness but I'd still consider it transparent.   Alsterbro would be believable, too   8)

You can see my Alsterbro one here:

The picture is not very good quality, as I took it on a webcam ages ago, but the orange (it is bright orange btw) is not opaque.
