This candy dish, or whatever it is perplexing me.  Can anyone help me in identifying this.  The shape looks like a strawberry to me, it's cranberry stained with gold paint.

The pattern on the glass reminds me of some Italian glass pieces (I think they were Italian, I'm not 100% sure on that). I'm just wondering if this style of pattern is done by other places too?
