Pedestal paperweight
« on: September 22, 2013, 01:53:58 PM »
Hi
I recently acquired this pedestal paperweight/mantel ornament with a double harlequin type design, I have been unable to confirm its origins, the photos don't show it too well but there is a lot of aventurine in the weight. (That is a bruise on the top sadly but it will polish out.)
It stands 150mm (6") tall and was apparently (so the dealer told me) purchased in France so a French/Belgium maker?

Any ideas?

Nick

Hi Nick

I think you are correct - a Belgian (or maybe Alsace maker). There were lots of them, so near impossible to attribute to a specific factory. They often have a mark on top from the pontil.

Don't spend too much on polishing out the mark / bruise, as the market value of perfect specimens is not particularly high...

Thanks Alan, I didn't pay too much for it and will try polishing it myself.
