ID vaseline plate
« on: September 27, 2013, 05:53:30 AM »
I have two pieces of primrose pearline/vaseline glass with pearline edge in a pattern named as 'Daisy Swirl".  Could you help as to who manufactured this pattern and what date.  I found this name and photo in 'Standard Encyclopedia of Opalescent glass', fifth edition by Bill Edwards and Mike Carwile.

From what I can find primrose pearline was Davidson. A specific pattern called Daisy Swirl I cannot find anywhere in references or on line. Hopefully someone else can help. Unfortunately (reportedly) those authors at times use pattern names no one has heard of so I strongly suggest you post a photo to see if your pattern is recognized as something other than Daisy Swirl.

The pattern was named by Bill Edwards.  There is no Rd number.  I have never bought a piece from the UK.  1/2 the pieces I have either bought (or bought from someone else who bought them) came from Australia, via eBay.  I suspect this was either an export item from the UK to Australia, or it was made in Australia.  I have seen the pattern in both blue pearline and primrose pearline.  I have also seen the blue bowls that were drilled and used as part of a epergne or table decoration.  The one I am thinking of was a figure of a girl in a rainstorm, and the bowl, facing upward, was used as an umbrella that the wind had caught and turned upward.

As you can see from the photos below, I have managed to collect 4 different shapes.  All were made from different molds (the plates are NOT the bowls just flattened out).  I have never found the name of the maker.

Thanks Dave for your informative post.  Sorry to hear you have been unable to find the manufacturer.  I have now taken photo's of my two pieces for your information.  As you have said the blue piece is drilled in base for the attached stand, the bowl measuring approx. 6 1/2 inches in width.  The yellow/primrose plate seems to be the same as one of yours and is approx. 9 1/2 inches in width.  The plate seems to me to be more fragile in thickness  (than the blue piece) and I did purchase this in Australia..  The blue piece I purchased from the U.K.
