Tall mint green bottle vase - signed
« on: October 10, 2013, 01:06:56 PM »
Hi, i have had this for years and never known what it is.
It's 10.5" tall and is a pale mint green in colour. The glass surface is a buff or frosted effect.
The base has no pontil or ground in any way, just moulded looking.
Its signed what I think is a 'M' in a circle then 466/078CCAA1980 , it looks a bit Scandi to me but not sure.
Thanks for any help, Wolfie

Do I see two figures within the string that might read "of" for Orrefors? Just after the slash mark.
If so, do you have Ivo's Fact File A-Z to look up the rest of the numbers - if you can make them out?

 :)

I think the CCAA points towards this glass-gallery in Cologne, which sells replicas of ancient roman pieces:

A former provider was Ichendorf, but I reckon there were others as well.

I'm sorry for being wrong and sending you in wrong directions, Wolfie.  ;D

That last link you put in has a bottle in  (what is to me) an utterly fascinating shape - because I have a bottle I believe to have been made by the Boffos at Mdina - in almost exactly the same shape - there is a difference in an angle in the handle.
Given your interest in Boffo's work, I'm showing it.
It is Mdina - it has the mark in Dobson's writing on the base.

Hi,

Quite a common design and a design that has been experimented with by a vast number of manufacturers. Inspired by the Romans.

Harry Powells designs for Whitefriars are probably the most famous Roman inspired pieces.
