Thanks Rosie. It is an indented mark. I have gone back to my pottery tricks and put vegemite on the glass to make the mark stand out more - hopefully this will help.

I am clutching at straws here and as mine has no signature I think it is unlikely - what do you think of the shape of this frog compared with my ram?

I don't think your ram is a Licio Zanetti piece, I have never seen one with an impressed mark,  only ever either his full signature ( on pieces he believed to be his best work) or Zanetti L.

I would so like to see a better picture of the impressed mark,  the Vegemite just seems to have muddled it.  Where on the ram is the mark....is it on one of the feet or central to the underbelly?

The mark is on one of the feet. I took this one with my camera earlier today but again with vegemite. Will try and take another one without the vegemite now!

Sorry - pitch black here now and the flash is distorting the images. Will have to try again tomorrow. Any tips on photographing glass is also appreciated.

Is the impression simply the shear marks? Doesn't look much like a signature to me. But you could try to photograph it in daylight, trying to get light to shine across the base. Needs to be hand-held, but you should be able to snap one. Have the camera set to macro mode (tulip icon) as this will help with focussing. Hope this helps.

New to Glass and have just looked up shear mark - you have just dashed my hopes of the marks possibly being initials. There are two definite lines coming down from the more swirly main line across. Could this still happen when it is cut? Warned you I have NO CLUE!!! but I am slowly learning.

Well, your hopes are dashed regarding a signature, but he's still a magnificent beast! 

Anyway, the base definitely rules out V.Nason and Ronneby, which are both closely related in style and make.  Signatures (or labels, assuming they have not been removed) on these are invariably present. Could still be Scandinavian?

I think it is a studio piece from Australia most likely.  They are not shears marks , they are raised and think the initials are TR (see photo) I have cropped and doctored from yours.  Unfortunately I do not know of a TR.  There is a Tyrone Renyon listed as an alumni of The Jam Factory , Adelaide Glass School so maybe it is one of his.
