Chinese footed blue crimp rose
« on: November 19, 2013, 05:50:53 PM »
 Hi everybody,

I have read that these weights are a copy made in China  of a  Millville footed crimp rose.

The bottom is ground concave, the glass is grayish.  9 cm tall and 7 cm diameter

Could be made in the 1930's?

Best regards.
Marc.

Hi marc

It certainly looks like a Chinese paperweight. My thoughts are that it is mid 20th century or later, so quite who they might have been copying is less clear...it may just be a generic style...

Hi Alan,
I read an article about the Milville rose in the Delaware Valley PCA newsletter,  September 2010, and talks about a Chinese copies of this weight, and I thought it could be one of them.

Best regards.
Marc.

These were offered by many importers of Chinese paperweights in the 1980's. They were later made with small bees hovering over the blossom. Made in several different colors. One the companies that imported them to the US was the John Chao Co. and several other companies that did most of the regional wholesale gift shows.
