Barbara may I use your photo to see if we can find anything out about it? I'd like to ask the wwwcga members if they've seen anything like it before.

Hi Glen,

Of course you can use the photographs, just remember to tell them they're mine and not yours, as I don't want to cause you any embaressment

I will try and take a better one tomorrow, now the new kitchen is finally finished. Never again! I couldn't stand the mess or smell of gloss paint  ( Only trouble is the washing machine has sprung a leak all over the new floor)
Just need the rest of the house re-painting now, why is it that when one room is nicely done the rest looks a state? Its like the Forth bridge.

Hi Glen,

I've got an even better idea, if you could let me know your address, I will send you the item and then you could do a better investigation, and my kids wont be able to make rude comments!!

Hi Barbara   hang on to it for a little while longer (ignore the cheeky comments   ) Let me see if I can get any flicker of recognition from any other Carnival collectors in wwwcga. I'll report back ASAP.

Hi Glen,

OK I will, I'm just pleased that me little dears have left Primary school, as I dread to think what the teachers would think if they still had to do a Daily Diary

Hi Barbara, I am going to risk being "Cafe'd" with my next comment, but it's worth it. Trust me............

My late brother in law used to be an avid collector of antiquarian books - when his children were young, one of them wrote in her school book (about "Daddy"):

"My daddy has a lot of dirty books".

Well Barbara - looks like this one is proving to be another mystery with which to enrich our lives! I haven't received so much as a flicker of recognition from the Carnival community (I mean Carnival Glass collectors and not the people who run the dodgems and sell toffee apples   )

Sorry not to have been able to help more - but at least you have a mysterious, intriguing and challenging piece of glass.

Hi Glen,

It is a mystery and a real talking point!

Another glass collector thought it might be "Oban" (I think that is what he said, but we had been on the vino quite a lot  ) who were either an Austrian or German company, but thats the closest to anyone giving an opinion about it and I was not in full control of my faculties

I think he's thinking of Oberglas (Austria). They certainly did make lightly iridised glass (we've written about it here on the GMB). I'll see if I can find it in their catalogues when I have a mo. Thanks for the lead, Barbara.

Glen

(PS was it good vino?)

Hi Glen,

You are right, I'm so pleased that YOU know what I mean, as no one else seems to

Apart from Ron, who stopped dealing some 20 years ago and is not up on the more "modern" glass, there are no others who are interested in glass at all. Its good when buying at auction and the local antique centres as I have had some lovely bargains, but also see some glaring clangers. I have offered some advice if I know the dealer, but most don't seem to appreciate it especially if its "Whitefriars"

As for the wine  we started off on the decent red but by the time we finished we were on the awful (but very cheap, and all the local shop which was open had!) Lambrusco, but were so far gone it didn't taste at all bad
