ID help please - Lauscha? 1930's ish?
« on: May 14, 2006, 02:57:36 PM »
I got this ages ago and have been wondering who to attribute it to - it sort of looks a little like a Lauscha vase I saw in a book because of the handpainted diagonal lines but this isn't my era so I've no idea really... any help would be appreciated.  Cheers m'dears...

Lauscha glassmakers specialise in miniatures and christmas ornaments - you forget to mention what size the item is.

I've got one almost the same, just a slightly different shape. Is the glass very thin ? And the green lines very shiney ? Mine's about 8"

Yes I know - and marbles! - but I've got a glass book with a yellow Lauscha attributed vase in, it's abit more ornate but the painted lines look the same.  It's at the back of a cabinet so without getting it out (sorry I'm having a clumsy day today) I'd say it was about 7 inches tall.

Yes, that's sounds the same!  The glass is very light and thin - it's very delicate - and the lines look as if they are a type of enamel paint.  Do you know anything about yours GlassDarkLee?

I've been watching this guy on Ebay.  I bid (lol such a paltry amount, but I couldn't think where I was going to put such a large lampwork deer + hounds) on this last night.  He keeps coming up with similar stuff...

There's a nice butterfly for Simone available....and he keeps seeming to get more.

Hi Max,

That would have been a nice piece to buy, if you are into lamp-worked figures.
Not sure about the attribution though, as a very similar piece, "Jagdgruppe" is documented in "6 Thuringer Glaskunstler von 1945-1960" 1985, and stated as the design/work of Edmund Muller, Neuhaus am Rennweg, and produced between 1948 and 1951. Not sure how you distinguish the particular glass-workers' production.

With regard to Pip's original question, the same catalogue shows some examples of vases and drinking sets, again by Muller, but also Albin Schaedel of Arnstadt, and Rudolf Hantschel senior (Gehren), but nothing with this type of painted decoration.

Regards,
Marcus

Thanks for the info Marcus...I can see distinguishing different makers of lampwork is a bit of a minefield now.  I hadn't thought of that.   Well, I'm glad I didn't make a sensible offer on the stag and hounds.  However, it's about the fourth piece he's sold and was getting much better money for the others.

I think I'll leave lampwork alone.    :x  :D

Please,
I should make it quite clear, that merely the fact that I do not know how you tell one persons work, from another, does not make this sellers attribution inaccurate. Merely an obeservation based on a catalogue.

Marcus
