hi, I have someone who has an ink bottle with date cane 1848 , can anyone i.d the maker and any other info please

Baccarat DuPont era.  Early 1900's, I think a fairly uncommon piece.

thanks for reply, someone has suggested that it is a modern murano piece with a fake date cane

It is correct that there are also Murano weights with 1848 fake canes around, but these canes look different. The date canes looking like a Leibniz waterbiscuit are Dupont. Also the other canes are Dupont, not Murano.

oh forgot to ask, if this is Dupont then are these still collectable since this would mean that the bottle would date more likely 1930s so the date cane would be a fake ?

Depends on what you call "collectable": a rather similar one recently sold on ebay for US $650,00 (which I wouldn't pay - but someone did).

That's another point of discussion: some people defend this (usually in connection with Murano items) as "commemorative dates" (grandmother's year of birth and the like) ... to be honest: I call them fakes .
