Topic: New addition to collection - Looking for info

Hello,

I just purchased the following on Ebay in a group.    The following is etched on the dome : A set of initials and  Le 29 September 1890 , Cour Eiffel.   Has anyone seen anything like this? Would the etching really have been added in 1890? Who would have made the paperweight?

Surely it says Tour Eiffel, aka the Eiffel Tower......

Someone will now come along and say antique French, but someone with more knowledge than me about antique French weights will tie the factory down....

Hi.  I have seen others with a similar inscription. These were pieces sold as souvenirs of the Eiffel Tower, so the date is genuine. The others I have seen were all Baccarat paperweights (rock grounds and pansies).

 Thanks for the replies.    I should have realized it was a T.   Is this Baccarat?     It is an interesting piece of history.  I always wonder what kind of journey antique paperweights have taken. Where has it been for the last 120 years.  Does anyone know how much such a souvenir would have cost back in 1890?   


 On another note I was bummed that I was 5 minutes too late , look at the lot some lucky person purchased from the same seller 5 minutes before I purchased the lot that contained this paperweight:
