Hi

Just a quick note: the artists, engravers and cutters at Orrefors did not sign the works. An employee was assigned the
duty.

Unfortunately, New Wave the corporate owner has closed the Orrefors glass works for good after several attempts to sell
the works.

Sad days for Swedish culture as this institution was an intregal part of the tradition.

I did not realize that, i would have thought that after the piece was finished, the engraver would quickly sign the piece, but obviously not.

Indeed very sad, as you mentioned, again part of a cultural heritage gone, same is happening as we speak overhere in Belgium at VSL, i was told last week they're still talking with new investors, lawyers etc  but i can't see it happening really.  :'(

not 100% correct.

Back in the day, no artglass signature was applied until the very final stage. The real artglass was even noted where it was sold.
This was done in the art glass department which did exist pretty much until the end.
During the 80's there was only one person who did that(a woman). Before that a man, not sure how long he did it.

Standard production pieces in some cases was signed already in the production( I have done it myself).

When you see a artist signature that is hand written on a limited art glass piece, this is actually done by the artist. But just the signature, nothing else. Engraved pieces never have this type of signature.
