Miloš Bohuslav Volf (1915-1983) was a humanist scientist (spoke: Czech, English, German, French, Latin, Italian, and Russian), a specialist in crystal chemistry, developed patents such as the famous "Atil" and "Simax" for the firm Kavalier. Author of books of his specialty, university professor and representative of the Czechoslovak glass industry in international organizations. In 1940 - 45, as a young graduate in Biology and Chemistry, he entered the firm's chemical department - ČMS Reich Krásno - where he would coincide and be technically involved in the work of designers as restless as he was: the brothers Karel and František ZemeK, Milena Velíšková, Ludvika Smrčkova and an already experienced glass worker Emanuel Beránek; One day, possibly assisted by the latter, experimentally (we do not know of any other of his designs) he was encouraged to create this friendly and successful kitten that has continued to be produced by different hands and in various factories until today.

Sometimes the minds of great artists, such as Matura, suffer from melancholy and imagine a humanity destroyed by volcanoes in simultaneous explosion. To stigmatize her delusions, she is pleased to materialize her nightmares in works of art.

I've just seen your post about Professor Volf.  Very informative and it blows my mind how accomplished and just ... how clever some people are.

I love that cat also and your Artwork does it justice :)

1937 - Europe quietly prepares for the second great war.
Paris - World's Fair: The Heinrich Hoffmann house obtains first medals for several of its products, including this chess set by Zdeněk Juna.
It seems that the war destruction wiped out most of these crystal chess sets. Today it is difficult to get a complete case and its collectors are content to own only some of its pieces.

I must confess that I have a special respect and great admiration for the work of Adolf Matura. Specializing in cut glass after his secondary studies at Železný Brod and higher in Prague, his designs gradually focused on pressed glass in whose specialty he reached high levels of authority and institutional responsibility.
* Your "Praha" design was applied in multiple formats.

There is a legend according to which the spirit of Picasso fueled the fire in the Škrdlovice ovens.
On certain days its designers, in ecstasy, made chandeliers to spread that divine light.

The flower set that Jitka Forejtová designed for Rudolfova Hut in 1950's consisted of three elements: Bowl, frog and the beautiful female.
Many of these pieces have been broken or missing, but all the brooding and pensive young ladies were saved.

The trees at LOETZ
are so radiant, allegorical, statuesque and beautiful that they obscure the forest.
