Wonky moulded crystal tumbler early French?
« on: March 11, 2014, 06:02:14 PM »
Hello all, my first post. I spend a lot of time in charity shops looking for bits of old glass. I don't know what I am looking at, I just buy the bits that look different. This cost me 99p and I bought it because I wanted to know what it is. Having showed it it a friend of mine he suggested it could be mid 19th century French, but was not certain. I hope somebody has seen one of these before? I have searched the internet high and low but can't find a match, any pointers are gratefully received. It is certainly moulded and is actually a bit wonky, and damn heavy. Thanks for looking.

It looks more like a jar which would have had a lid, than a tumbler, but sorry, I haven't a clue what it is.
It does appear to have some age.  :)

I'm sure somebody else will be more helpful than I can be - but just let me say; welcome to the gmb! :)

Many thanks for the welcomes, and yes 847 does look very similar. The chap who looked at it did say it looked a bit Baccarat. As a piece of glass it has had some serious use, nicks an chips all over and the base seems very worn. There is some wear to the top lip, I don't know how much would be due to the now missing lid or it being stood upside down to drain it after washing. Thanks for thoughts, I will investigate the catalogues.
