Edward Moore & Co. design registrations from the 1860s.
« on: April 02, 2014, 09:10:03 PM »
Edward Moore & Co., Tyne Flint Glass Works, South Shields, registered 40 designs between 1861 and 1889.

Of those design registrations, only three date from the 1842-1883 registry date lozenge period, and, in fact, all three ‘lozenge period’ designs are found in the 1860s:

RD 141573 of 27 June 1861 – Parcel 1 (which Jenny Thompson describes as ‘pattern’);

RD 141642 of 29 June 1861 – Parcel 4 (also described by Thompson as ‘pattern’;

RD 217207 of 5 March 1868 – Parcel 11 (described by Thompson as ‘pressed glass globe’).

Until recently, I hadn’t come across any pieces or photos of pieces from these Edward Moore registered designs, but now I have photos to show of a pressed glass stoppered decanter from RD 141642 of 29 June 1861 – Parcel 15. The decanter base and the stopper are both clearly marked with the appropriate lozenge. Measures 10 ˝ inches high (including the stopper). (Permission for the re-use of these images on the GMB granted by ukgizmo2013).

If the design registration is indeed for the ‘pattern’, does anyone have any other shapes to RD 141642 to show, please?

Does anyone have any photos of pieces from RD 141573 or RD 217207 to show, please?

Fred.

unfortunately I don't have pix of 141573 or 217207, but am going to Kew in the next day or so and will take pictures and post here.
I've looked at the Register for all three of the Rd. Nos. you mention.......
141573 and 141642 are described simply as 'bottles'  -   and 217207 says..'Pressed Glass Gas Globe'.

National Archive pix attached for 141573 and 141642....... as you can see both are simply 'patterns', as described by Thompson.

and 217207  -  the glass globe.

Thank you, Paul - much appreciated.

I particularly like the draughtsmanship and skilful rendering of the pattern for RD 141642.
