Beautiful vase
« on: April 05, 2014, 10:23:37 AM »
For my first post on a glass website i choose one of my favorites, a beautiful 'pointy vase' as i call it.
Possibly by Welz.
I'm curious as to its age, i would guess, from its Deco style, post WW1 but I'm not convinced. Its construction looks older than other Deco vases i have. There's a piece of grit on the glass from manufacture, visible top right of the photo.
Any opinions welcome.
Thank you

Welcome to the forum.

Both the shape of your vase and the decor are thought to be Welz, scroll down for a green Honeycomb example with the same shape: http://www.kralik-glass.com/welzresearchhoneycomb.html

As for date it seems that it could have been made a little earlier too, I would guess post 1900 but maybe falling out of favour when Deco was in full swing, this style somehow seems a little complicated and fussy to have survived long once the fashion had changed.

Thanks John, nice to be here.
I've wanted to join for awhile but couldn't get my photos small enough. Now i have an online friend & member here who's helping me to resize them:)
I have a few vases from the Deco period 20s-40s but thought this looked older. Its interesting that it could pre date that era.
