Murano Paperweight signed, authentic?
« on: April 20, 2014, 05:56:42 PM »
Hello

I purchased this Murano paperweight on my holiday in Venice 10years ago. A friend of mine recently informed me that there are alot of fakes even in Venice and it got me thinking about my own.  I have always presumed mine is genuine, and at the time had no idea they were even faked. I purchased it from a store in Venice and it is signed on the bottom - its hard to see but I think etched 'Fiore Murano' And this has made me doubt its authenticity as from doing a little research alot of information I've found states most murano paperweights are not signed.
Any information or authentication would be appreciated.

Looks Murano to me because of the length of the canes and the daisy canes, but I would not say 100% certain. Somebody will know for sure.

I agree with Roger. Looks like Murano. Nice quality glass, crisp detail to the canes.

I found this maker, googling, but also, there are more generic wineglasses made under a Fiori name too.

Hi.  Although lots of paperweights made in China have been sold in Murano / Burano as 'Murano', I think this one may be from a different source, quite possibly Murano. However,  I have been told that some 'Murano' paperweights sold by a well known 'Murano' maker (whose offices are based in mainland Italy rather than on Murano) are actually made in Morocco, using Murano canes. I cannot confirm this...but does it matter, anyway? Murano glass is made for the tourist trade, wherever the factory is located....

I fear the waters are a bit murky...
